COME AND TRAIN WITH US!
On joining us, you will get:
– Membership of a friendly, supportive community: our team of senior students (known as ‘senpais’) are here to help you reach your training goals. Students of all grades support each other and act as each other’s coach when pairing up for drills.
– Tuition matched to your needs. Age, lack of flexibility, injuries or a disability need not prevent participation and belt progression. Instead, training is adapted to you.
– Our practical curriculum, with access to our BMABA (British Martial Arts and Boxing Association)-approved, members-only syllabus documents for your progression through the belts, along with accompanying ‘how to’ training videos, which clearly demonstrate the content for your next grading and how to continue practising it on your own.
– Kata videos, each filmed in front- and rear-view, featuring slowed-down sections to assist you in learning and fine-tuning the moves of these set forms for gradings or competitions and your overall skills progression.
– Use of club training and sparring equipment.
– Big discounts on personal kit orders, when you want to invest in your own sparring or training gear.
– Student insurance (known as ‘peer-to-peer’ insurance), via our association, the BMABA, of which we are fully accredited members. This insurance provides cover for your liability in the event of another student being injured as a result of your actions or negligence.
Traditional karatekas
‘Karateka’: a practitioner of karate.
Traditional karate incorporates both long-range striking, with kicks and strikes, as well as close-quarter techniques, such as knee- and elbow-strikes.
We produce highly capable karatekas, with a well-rounded skills-base.
Well-rounded martial artists
As well as teaching the traditional forms (katas) and fundamental techniques (kihon) of Wado-Ryu karate, we respect and incorporate techniques from other karate styles, as well as the wider world of martial arts.
This helps to give our students broad-based foundations for self-defence and ensures we produce well-rounded martial artists, not just karate specialists.
Grappling and Takedowns
Grappling techniques and takedowns are less well-known aspects of karate, which some clubs neglect.
Our syllabus includes these important techniques, which include how to manipulate and control an attacker’s limbs and apply joint locks or chokes, as well as learning a range of different takedowns.
Groundwork basics
Karate is known for standing techniques, but since self-defence situations can often end up with an attacker, victim, or both, on the ground, we make sure students are competent in basic ground-fighting techniques, using controls, locks and chokes which can help end an attack quickly.
